Nice. Takes me back to the brown mystery DFAC meat and the "should we eat that??" Moment. Could never drink the dairy shakes though..had the sh*ts everytime. Used to save up the energy drink and juice drink sachets that you'd find in the more recent ones though. Your a brave guy 😂 good video man. 👍

Sad to say that - and probably due to the sheer demand from Ukraine as their website attests to - these rations are a tiny bit worse again now. If you get the full 24hr pack, you do seem to get one 'small' (Orifo) and one 'large' (some other brand) cold drink mix, but the chocolate bar and hot chocolate drink mix seems to have disappeared. Jerky seems to not quite ever last as long as the packet says either. A lot more bars are now from Orifo (yuk) but in a first-ever I've seen in any Euro MRE they seem to be getting some biscuits from a South African supplier! And they are fine. At least the coffee and condiments are still from Puro (UK) and the Orifo gum is from Denmark. Then again I'm looking forward to purchasing a whole bag of BimBam on an upcoming holiday :)

He seems to be kinda negative as far as approaching the older MREs compared to other guys eating 40yr old kits. I mean imagine it’s the end of the world and to be worried about black specs in oatmeal. If it’s that or radioactive mud… mushy oatmeal is the way to go!

The big can of 'dirty lentils' is Lentils with Pork. Sounds yummy. I've made lintels with pork belly before, its pretty good.

Maybe get a pair of Leatherman Raptor Shears to open the MREs? I got a pair of those and a pair of Amazon Brand Rip-Offs and both work really well at cutting everything.

Ive eaten several of these, they are not "good" but they are pretty bland and not hard to eat for me. They are designed to be something anyone in the world can pick up and eat to not starve, not to have a luxury meal. The only one I dont like is the peas in tomatoes, only because I dont like tomatoes but not because anythings wrong with it. You can easily survive off these if ever required, which is what the whole purpose of them is.

Honestly I am surprised the Italians didn't pack a sachet of dehydrated wine in there.

Though I've had too many MREs to count while in the military, this menu #5 was the first HDR that I've had. Mine was the same except I got the crackers instead of tortillas which I'm thankful for. Since my experience is limited to MREs I rated it a 7 but I was not disappointed with the taste and quality of my HDR. Also, I believe the spice in the oatmeal cookie was Allspice. 👍

I think you should revisit this video again because the Russians put their canned foods on a hot plate. You should do it again and show us when it’s cooked. Trust me there’s a different flavor have it. They do have it on lunch vehicle and the return vehicle they eat their food code.
